License

Post by atrev »

We have been using the control for years, but now we switched our PC this morning, and all our projects, including trying to make new ones report that the control needs a license. Resintalling does not seem to fix this

What is the version, build No. What is the system on the machine?
Could you sent the log file from C:\ProgramData\DInsight\4.yuorMinorVer\ ?

Starting from 4.1 only AutoCAD and shortest path staff needs license. Everything else should not mention a license. We might have missed some rare use case though. We need to investigate

Atrev,
I remember having this problem caused by wrong bitness or .Net framework version
What is the Visual Studio version?
If you are trying to build 64 bit target KernelCAD must also be 64 bit. Also 64 bit v4.3 supports only .Net <= 3.5. See http://www.dynoinsight.com/phpBB3/viewt ... f=2&t=2903

To eliminate possibilities check if Net 2.0 has this problem

Atrev,
There was a regression unrelated to licensing. The last good update is 3765:
http://www.dynoinsight.com/Prod/V4_3/37 ... 3_3765.exe
http://www.dynoinsight.com/Prod/V4_3/37 ... 3_3765.msm
http://www.dynoinsight.com/Prod/V4_3/37 ... 3_3765.exe
It should not take long to sort it out properly

We are running 4.3 on Windows XP systems using visual studio 2010 on .net3.5. We basically turned on our systems yesterday morning, and all four systems with this configuration failed to load the control.
Only conclusion I could come to myself that the control has a digital signature or something that has gone path its validity, and locked out our systems. Uninstalling and reinstalling latest from the website also did the same.
We couldn't move to 4.4 yet as other components weren't tested on .net 4.

The latest 4.4 version we tried installed apparently successfully, but when trying to open any samples, or running a new project with just the control, it gave us an exception when loaded, can't remember what it was. But when I tried opening the samples, they failed to open and error messages appear "(null) is not a valid win32 Application".

I then installed onto one of our Windows 7 systems, and this worked. I then tried to move the install folder to one of of XP systems, but was met with same error message of "(null) is not a valid win32 Application", so somehow is linked to Windows XP

We upgraded our projects to .net 4, and other 3rd party components, and still had problems. but these linked to the Forms having resource data ocxstate object . so deleted this and was ok.

We have a system that is supposed to go on-site to a client with Windows XP, and haven't had chance to see if the program will execute at all. But not looking hopeful.

For now we have 2 systems we can work with. Windows 7 Visual studio 2010 using .net 4

Basically lost about 7 hours yesterday trying to get it to work.

We have posted 4.3.3823 and 4.4.3824 http://www.dynoinsight.com/ProDown.htm, which fixes the “no license” problem

We are very sorry. This was unforeseen consequence of a bug fix in update 3776 released in February. The control was incorrectly attempting to check availability of a license (in form editor). Starting from v4.1 there should be no license checks, apart from two premium components, which do it at runtime if they are loaded on demand

We have modified test and release procedures to prevent it from happening again. It cannot be guaranteed completely though. We recommend keeping all updates for the last 6 months or so and in case of a regression please let us know and go back to the last good update.

Thank you for reporting

Looks like you have also some other problems. I will answer this shortly

v4.3 on Win XP

Post by nickz »

We just have retested: Today’s 4.3.3823 works OK on XP. Also .NET2 and .NET3.5 apps run OK based on redistributable KernelCAD_Runtime_4_3_3823.exe.

.NET 4 or later is not supported on XP unfortunately. See http://www.dynoinsight.com/phpBB3/viewt ... f=2&t=2903

One reminder: If you are redistributing with KcRedist_4_3_*.msm or using own installer do not forget to include the Microsoft’s C++ redistributable vcredist_x86.exe shipped with Visual Studio 2008 into your installer. KcRedist_4_3_*.msm does not include it. An easy way to get it is to run KernelCAD_Runtime_4_3_*.exe and locate the folder where the files are extracted to. The folder will contain vcredist_x86\vcredist_x86.exe

About v4.4 on XP in a minute....

v4.4 on XP

Post by nickz »

Atrev,
Unfortunately we do not support Windows XP in v4.4. I have posted this on a new thread: http://www.dynoinsight.com/phpBB3/viewt ... f=2&t=2909
Basically it is getting cumbersome to squeeze new staff into old system. V4.3 works OK and has practically same functionality, apart from the latest .NET versions support
