Whats new in v4.4 vs v4.3, .NET4.* etc

Post by gerard12 »

Dear DInsight partners and guests

On this late beta stage KernelCAD 4.4 does not have any new functionality as opposed to v4.3
All differences are mostly related to 64 bit edition
The main difference is that KC 4.3 did not support .NET v4.0 or later. KC v4.4 supports only .NET 4.0 and later. This is unfortunate consequence of incompatibility between versions of .NET and of Visual Studio.
We recommend upgrading applications to .NET 4.0 or later, Which means at least Visual Studio 2010, as soon as possible. Until that happens we suggest staying with KernelCAD 4.3.
What is new (non-functional) in KC 4.4:
- .NET samples automatically activate the correct target platform on start
- .NET samples Solution and project files have been upgraded to Visual Studio 2010
- Compilation errors fixed for x64 targets in all samples
- Structure of the Samples directory has changed. For example C# Zoom sample was moved into Samples\NET\C#\View\ folder
- There are new Samples\NET\C#\SamplesCS.sln and Samples\NET\VB\SamplesVB.sln which contain all samples
- As increased download bandwidth allows we have dropped the Viewer product and suggest using the Viewer application from the Developer product
- The .exe redistributable is not longer available as it is quite easy to convert the available .msm redistributable into an installable .msi or .exe installer
