Orientation of globa axes

Post by Chris Weber »

Hi
We have loaded a Step model and we have also noticed, that global axes of the model are not working as expected.
Many CAD systems have other axes orientation. In KC Z axis is pointing in screen,
but the models may have axis orientation where Y axis is pointing in screen.
This might be a problem when loading the model from file without manipulating it.
Maybe there is some information in the model for axis orientation?
Thanks
Chris

Hello Chris
Yes there are different axes orientations in different software. In KC it is right-handed. There is no option to change it dynamically. It is significant work to add it now, because it is involved in practically everything.

Regarding model manipulations it should not matter much though. I do not believe so. These are different ways of viewing the same geometry. Saving step in left handed system should be rendered mirrored on the screen, but the geometry should be same: The same points have same coordinates.

I do not believe there (in the step file) is, or should be information about what kind of axes a particular CAD system should be using. This is a matter of viewing preferences

Cheers
Gerard
