COM, etc

Post by nickz »

Hi guys
I think I wrote about this already. I have been often asked why the COM/ActiveX control? It is kind of out-dated technology.

My answer is always that you should not be concern with it at all. It is an extremely thin interface layer between IDE and the underlying modern complex software. We do not feel that we are being restricted by it in any way. We have been using it as a common denominator for all development environments.

Nevertheless we are planning a pure .NET control. Just to keep up the confidence. It should be available in 6.2 or 6.3 somewhere between four and ten months. The difference should be minor and restricted to the control properties. The interface hierarchy will remain the same.

Cheers from DInsight
